Over at Hospital HQ were big fans of Reso, so were very pleased to announce he’ll be playing Brixton on 24th September for us. We’re sent tracks regularly from the rezertron and it’s clear his influences run far and wide. One week we’ll receive a half step drum + bass banger, other weeks we’ll get some tripped out floaty 2 step, As well as the raw industrial dubstep for which he’s known. We caught up with Reso to find out how he felt about the Brixton gig. He was so chuffed he even recorded a drum + bass mix of all the stuff he’s in to right now. Which he has kindly allowed us to give to you.
We are really glad to have you come play at Brixton academy
What’s the favourite show you’ve seen down there ?
Probably when I saw the Beastie Boys just after Hello Nasty came out (I was about 16). Me and my mate Lew got there super early and caught one of the last ever performances of the Invisbl Scratch Piklz. There were only about 200 people in the main room at the time and it blew my tiny mind.
I’ve been there loads since but that one sticks out as a special gig.
How does it feel to grace the same stage as some of those acts?
It’s crackers, I saw my first ever gig at Brixton and to be able to play there now is a little dream come true
Hospital records really digs your sound, I know you’re well into much much more than just dubstep as highlighted by the drum and bass mix you’ve kindly presented us with. How do you feel about drum and bass right now ?
I feckin love DnB right now, it’s got me all excited again, kind of how dubstep did when I first heard it. I love the variety thats going on and the level of production is basically the best there is in dance music as a whole in my opinion.
I really dig all aspects of it especially the “Microfunk” thing that Alix Perez, Spectrasoul et al are doing.
The sun is shining and the sun is out in London right now. Is this effecting your creativity when it comes to making your really heads down grimy numbers.
Deffo, I’ll sit down and think “right! Lets make the grimiest thing ever” then I look out the window and see an amazing sunset and end up making cheeseball house or some shit. Winter is much more conducive to making knarly, twisty bass music.
So your albums coming out on civil ? What sort of thing can we expect ?
A right old mixed bag of chuff , obviously there’s dubstep and DnB but some weird wonky hiphop stuff and some “proper” breaks too. It’s been a long slog but it’s finally coming together.
Gigging is taking you all over the world right now, where is really killing it for you ?
People always ask me this and I honestly couldn’t say, I’ve had wicked gigs and some shit gigs in the same town, even the same venue. Really depends on the crowd on the night and how hungover/tired/excited I am haha.
