Introducing… Camo + Krooked

We recently announced that Austrian superstar production duo Camo + Krooked have officially signed to Hospital Records. The ‘Best Newcomer DJs’ at the DNB Arena Awards 2010 absolutely smashed it last year on both the production and remix front. Their track on Hospital ‘Turn Up (The Music)’ was featured on ‘Annie Mac Presents’ 2010 compilation and their solo 12” ‘Climax/Reincarnation’ was a club classic from the summer. Not content with tearing up dancefloors with their trademark D+B productions, the pair have gone from strength to strength, breaking down the genre boundaries with their dubstep cuts as well as producing techno under the alias Chrome.

It goes without saying that Camo + Krooked have big plans for the coming year; just this week they were added to the Radio One ‘In New Music We Trust’ playlist and with their sophomore album on the horizon, expect plenty more to come from the Viennese pair in the coming months. Kicking off with their first Hospitality event of 2011, they will be gracing us with their electric DJ skills on Saturday 29th January at the HMV Institute, Birmingham. We’re incredibly excited to have them in Room One alongside High Contrast, London Elektricity, Danny Byrd, Breakage, Nu:Tone and more.

In order to find out a little more about the boys we hooked up with Camo + Krooked and interviewed them about each other…

Hi Camo! How you doing? Now rather than us asking questions about yourself we’re going to ask you questions about Krooked. So…

What’s Krooked’s real name? Markus Wagner

How old is he? 21

What’s his favourite thing to eat? Wiener Schnitzel

And favourite alcoholic drink? Beer

What would he be if he wasn’t a DJ/producer? He would definitely be some sort of IT guy.

What’s his special skill in the studio? He has a lot of ideas and is good with melodies.

Tell us something surprising about him? No musical training.

Describe him in three words? Friendly, loyal, clever.

OK cool. So we know a bit about Krooked now. Over to the man himself now to reveal a little bit more about Camo….

What’s his real name? Reinhard Rietsch

What’s his main passion outside music and D+B? Skateboarding!

When did you first meet Camo? He played at a party in my hometown St. Poelten before Aphrodite on NYE 2006/07. I did not know him before, but his set was well interesting since he only played tunes made by himself.

How did you start making music together? We got in touch after that NYE party and found out that we used the same software sequencer to make music, so we thought we could just try to do a tune together.

Is he an extrovert or introvert? Extrovert.

What’s his favourite tune at the moment? RJD2 – ‘Smoke n Mirrors’

Name three things he doesn’t like? Badly produced tunes, super-tight jeans on men, no food showing up when waiting for it.

And can you describe him in three words? Honest, direct, ambitious.

Thanks for that. So how do you guys feel about signing to Hospital?

We are pretty glad we decided to go with Hospital, as they are the most professional label in the D+B business and their releases are always on schedule.

You’re playing at Hospitality Birmingham on 29th January. Have you played at many Hospitality events before? Are you looking forward to it?

We have played quite a few but we are always looking forward to these nights as they are always the best parties around!

What can we expect from a Camo + Krooked DJ set?

We just bought a sampler and a Kaos pad so we will expand our 3CDJ DJ set in the next few months and will be on stage always together bringing the best new tunes and the best classics in the best mixes.

Will you mix in any other genres, or will it be dancefloor D+B all the way?

Mostly D+B but we always spice it up with a few dubstep tunes and a bit of electro.

Any final words for Hospitality fans out there?

Hospitality will make you sexier!

You can catch Camo + Krooked at Hospitality, Birmingham on Saturday 29th January: HMV Institute, Digbeth High Street, Digbeth, Birmingham, B5 6DY.  Tickets £17.50 available from HERE.
